original soundtrack for the game awards vote IN fortnite map
For the 4th year in a row I've worked with Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards to create something spectacular for the live shows but this year was extra special. The Game Awards teamed up with Epic's Fortnite to give the voters the opportunity to cast their vote for the best Fortnite map inside a tailor made Game Awards map... and I got the chance to make the background music.

The team involved was courageous enough to let me work with a stems system, meaning that we have 4 separate tracks, each with their own distinct characteristics, playing at he same time in the UEFN game engine that we mix seamlessly between respectively to where you're located on the map.

For the next round we agreed on the mantra "For The Kids", to emphasize the need to embrace all ages and to make sure that the music feels more like embarking on an exciting journey. This is the version from which the 4 final tracks are branched out.

PROCESS
As with most projects, I stumble around like a headless chicken for the first couple of iterations, looking for boundaries and inspiration and the first real test of the music was no exception. Although it was well received it was also deemed haunting, evil and like something bad and foreboding was going to happen. I don't disagree but I still kind of like it.

Here's an iteration of the first test that didn't make it.
